Jake Lloyd Music Videos

Animated Music Videos featured at the 2022 Austin City Limits Festival I collaborated with local Austin musician Jake Lloyd to develop coordinating animations and illustrations for his "Cold Summer" and "Sweat" release. Jake and I share a similar love of storytelling in music and we wanted to tell a story through visuals while keeping my illustration style and use of looping gifs in videos.

The animation for "Cold Summer" was inspired by music artist J. Balvin's collaboration with the creative group Friends With You. The juxtaposition of the sad story of love failed up against a super cute, bright, Kawaii background with characters is very much indicative of the work I love to do.

"Sweat" is a love letter to our beloved East Austin. Both Jake and I grew up here in Central Texas and as POC have a great connection to East Austin. Featuring homes in the live-action video and some neighborhood landmarks, this video showcases monoline illustrations and the use of gif in video.

The animated version of "Cold Summer" music video played on a loop behind Jake and his band during his entire set.

Jake Lloyd Sweat Animated Video

In the live-action version of this video, Jake goes through various scenarios of yard work while on the East Austin landscape. My favorite part of this particular video is my vector recreation of a Hakusai print featured on an East Austin hand painted wall.

Jake used these assets on social media, YouTube, and Spotify. The characters are very much Kawaii-inspired.

Using gifs in video allows for the flexibility of creative assets. Looping an action in video is the oldest form of animating subjects for film.

The outfits Jake wears in these animated videos are based off the outfits in his live-action videos. I used DUIK-Bissel to rig Jake's arms and legs.
